With the new season beginning this weekend in Brisbane, Australia, expect more posts to be coming your way with the off-season coming to a close. Until then, here’s the latest in the world of Ana Ivanovic.
- Ana has been nominated for five different awards in the annual onthebaseline.com tennis awards. She has been nominated for the following categories: Comeback Player of the Year, Fan Favorite of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year, Facebook Fan Page of the Year and Best Official Player Website. I’m not quite sure what qualifies her to be nominated for Comeback Player of the Year given how disappointing the 2011 season was for Ana, but nonetheless, she was nominated. Nigel Sears was also nominated for coach of the year as well. You can vote in the link above. I would also encourage you to vote Courtney Nguyen for Best Tennis writer, who has been doing great work for both her blog Forty Deuce and Sports Illustrated’s Beyond the Baseline, both of which are also nominated for Best Tennis Blog, so please vote!
- Last week it was reported that Ana and Scott Byrnes were no longer working together anymore. A few days later we learned from Matt Cronin of tennis.com that Ana has been working with her boyfriend Adam Scott’s physio/osteopath Tina Maio of Australia. According to Cronin, Ana’s body reacted better to Maio’s exercises and came to the conclusion that Maio’s fitness regimen would work better for her health and body than that of Scott Byrnes, thus they parted ways. She still has not hired her own fitness trainer yet for the new season, and it’s unclear when she will.
- Ana extended her partnership with Yonex, according to Ana’s official website. She originally signed a four year deal with Yonex back in 2008. No details are yet known on the contract extension. Ana previously worked with Wilson before moving to Yonex back in 2008.
Notes: The Brisbane main draw will be done on Saturday at 10:30 AM local time in Brisbane, which translates to 7:30 PM Friday Night in North America. Stay tuned to find out who Ana will be facing to open up the new year. Ana is currently unseeded, just one spot away from the 8th and final seed, so as of right now, she could draw anybody in what is a pretty loaded draw. Lets hope for the best.
