Ana is back into the 3rd round at the Australian Open for the first time since 2009, after a stellar performance against Machaella Krajicek. Ana cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory to advance, and her serve was on fire today.
In the 1st set, Ana only lost one point on her serve. ONE. And it came on a double fault. She closed out the set, winning 14/15 points in her service games. She continued the great serving in the 2nd set. While Krajicek herself served very well at times, she wasn’t as consistent, dumping in seven double faults of her own. Ana broke Krajicek in the final game of the match to seal the victory. Ana didn’t face a single break point during the entire match. In fact, she hasn’t faced a single break point all tournament as she served well against Dominguez Lino in the 1st round too. It’s refreshing to see her serve as well as she has been this week, reminding everybody of the weapon her serve once was and still can be. When Ana is serving well, the rest of her game tends to come together also. If she can keep this up, a 4th round date with Petra Kvitova could be interesting. But in order for that to happen, Ana will have to defeat either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Vania King in the 3rd round. They play later today. All in all, it was a good day at the office for Ana Ivanovic.
