Ana is through to the 2nd round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Johanna Larsson. The win was a little extra sweet for Ana, given the fact that she was able to avenge her loss to Larsson from last years French Open.
In a match that lasted only 61 minutes, Ana cruised to victory, despite not taking advantage of many break point opportunities. She was 5 for 18 on break points (two via Larsson double faults) for the match. After failing to take advantage of two match points on Larsson’s serve, Ana held to love to close things out. While she wasn’t always able to break at first opportunity, she did eventually succeed in doing so, with Larsson only being able to hold serve just twice during the match. Meanwhile, Ana was only broken once herself, early in the 1st set, to love. Ivanovic served at 53% for the match and won 67% of points on both her 1st and 2nd serve. The balance was greatly improved from her most recent matches, where the discrepancy between points won on first and second serve was quite big.
Ana’s thoughts on her win over Larsson:
“I’m definitely happy about that. I had a little bit of that (French Open) match in my mind. I didn’t play good at the French Open, so I knew I had a better chance this time around. I felt it was a bit of an awkward match against her but I’m still so happy to get that revenge and win.”
Ana’s next match will be on Monday. She will play either Ksenia Pervak or Peng Shuai, who face each other later today.
